Baby Bear

Confirmation: Lucy is a warm weather, outside gal. I took her for a walk in the warmish weather yesterday and she slept for 13 hours last night (with three feedings throughout). Poor baby has been cooped up so much this winter. I can't wait to be able to take her for a walk every day without being bundled up or shoved in one of our down coats.

It seems like the Gooster is discovering something new every day. She has been looking at her hands for the past few days for the first time and bent over to grab her feet for the first time today. This past week she got a hold of a hanging toy with both hands, fingers open, and brought it to her mouth. She gets frustrated with this quickly for what seems to be two reasons: 1- she cannot keep the toy in her mouth for very long and it is a lot of work to get it back there every time she drops it; 2- She soon realizes that she likes to have something in her mouth, but that she would be prefer it to be a boob and soon asks for that to instead. It is really fun to watch her learn about her world. Today she tasted her first book. She is really checking out the pictures when we read, too, and, depending on her level of tired/hungry, currently has a fairly long attention span for reading books. We read 6 board books in a row today and she was intent on all of them. (I am grateful to have so many books, thanks to our wonderful family and friends).

In mommy news, I took Lucy to Kids Cove at the gym last Monday and left her there without me for 25 minute! I only checked on her once. She seemed to be glad when I came back, but was not unhappy that I left. I really enjoyed working out and didn't even feel guilty! We also tried out a new bottle a couple of weekends ago (Playtex Airvent) and Jim reports that this has made bottle feeding much less traumatic for both of them. Yay! I have gone swimming and made a couple of stops on the way home four out of the past 6 weekend days while Lucy Bear and Daddy Bear had some time together. I may have found her squished into the nursing pillow, propped up on the couch sockless when I got home, but everyone seemed to be fed, dry and content. No complaints. (Jim said Lucy didn't want socks on and that she took them off herself. Ugh).
